Launched in August 2023, Crisis’ Refugee Service supports newly recognised refugees at risk of homelessness as they leave Home Office accommodation. The service provides housing advice alongside tailored support with employment, training and wellbeing. Based at Skylight Brent, specialist coaches work with local partners to secure housing and help clients build independent lives. In its first year, the service accepted 427 referrals, with 75% of clients successfully housed.Ongoing support helps individuals sustain tenancies and achieve integration goals such as accessing healthcare, education and work.
Hackney’s Complex Needs Team delivers a coordinated, multi-agency response to homelessness, trauma and multiple disadvantage. Bringing together council services, health professionals and outreach partners, the team provides person-centred support that addresses housing alongside mental health, wellbeing and social care needs. Key interventions include hospital discharge planning, trauma-informed assessments and intensive community support. In 2024, the project helped residents secure stable housing while improving overall wellbeing.
The Outside Project is the UK’s only LGBTIQ+ crisis housing service, offering safe and inclusive support for people facing homelessness. Since 2017, it has expanded from a winter shelter to year-round services, including a crisis shelter, domestic abuse refuge and outreach work. In 2024, it launched the UK’s first Trans+ Winter Night Shelter. The project addresses hidden homelessness within the LGBTIQ+ community, providing safe accommodation and amplifying marginalised voices.
The Royal Borough of Greenwich’s Temporary Accommodation Reduction Programme: Reduced the number of households in hotel accommodation from 280 to 9 through a coordinated, data-driven approach. Alongside prevention work, the programme improved living conditions for families in temporary accommodation.
Thames Reach Resettlement Support Team: Supports hostel residents to move into permanent housing through a dedicated, independent resettlement team. The approach increases move-on rates and frees up hostel spaces for others in need.
Haringey Migrant Support Centre Migrant Homelessness Response:
Provides specialist advice and support for migrants facing homelessness, combining housing and immigration casework. In 2024–25, the service supported hundreds of people, helping secure housing and prevent destitution.
